Alla scarnitura segue il test con l'ausilio del dinamometro per verificare la resistenza alla trazione dei singoli budelli. Esiste infatti una notevole differenza tra un budello e l'altro, e talvolta quelli più fini sono più resistenti di quelli più grossi: è evidente l'importanza di questa operazione, perché consente di selezionare il materiale destinato alle corde più sollecitate come i cantini.
